Job description

Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist Associate

Join LCMC Health as a Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist Associate.

General Duties
  • Perform echocardiograms and vascular studies within scope of training and experience.
  • Expand scope of examination when abnormalities are identified.
  • Select appropriate transducers and settings for examinations.
  • Assist physicians with transesophageal and stress echocardiograms.
  • Maintain records of all procedures performed and archive patient examinations.
  • Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
  • Inspect ultrasound equipment daily; report malfunctions in a timely manner.
  • Identify patients and procedures in accordance with JCAHO standards.
  • Ensure rooms and equipment are cleaned and maintained between patients.
  • Notify appropriate personnel when supplies are needed.
  • Prepare preliminary reports and contact referring physicians as required.
  • Coordinate with other staff to assure appropriate patient care.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety and well‑being of all patients in the sonography area/department.
Patient Safety
  • Operate equipment safely and correctly.
  • Inspect ultrasound equipment daily to ensure proper operation.
  • Report any malfunctions promptly through the proper reporting method.
  • Identify the patient and procedure in accordance with JCAHO standards.
Departmental Responsibilities
  • Examine rooms and equipment for cleanliness and maintenance between patients.
  • Monitor and notify proper personnel when supplies are needed.
Customer Service
  • Prepare preliminary reports and contact referring physicians when required.
  • Coordinate with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety and well‑being of all patients in the sonography area.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Eligible for registry with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing Institute.
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of ultrasound physics and instrumentation, cardiac and vascular anatomy and physiology, general medical terminology, and physician orders nomenclature.
  • Ability to locate anatomic landmarks, use manual dexterity for proper probe placement, and draw clinically relevant conclusions from raw data.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills; analytical skills to determine job priorities, multitask, and work independently.
  • National Registry – Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RCVT/RVT) or RVS/RCS within six months of hire.
Required for Manning Family
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Eligible for registry with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing Institute.
  • Certification as Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or as a Registered Cardiovascular Sonographer (RCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within 12 months of hire.
