Job summary

UPMC Shadyside is seeking part-time Cardiac Transporters to support daily operations in the Transportation Services Department in Shadyside, PA. Position requires walking ~7 miles daily and interacting with patients to contribute to their care.

You will safely transport patients and equipment, operate the ECG machine, and coordinate with nursing and other departments as needed; shifts vary and 7 consecutive training days are required.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with lab terminology and CRT terminals.
• Ability to rotate 24/7 shifts.
• Knowledge of office procedures.
• Ability to place ECG leads accurately.
• Ability to follow departmental procedures.
• Basic knowledge of ECG management systems.
• Good judgment in prioritising work.
• Strong organizational skills.
• May transport medications in the course of duties.
• Medication transport is restricted to within departments.

Responsibilities

• Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviours.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Acquires electrocardiograms using the ECG management system.
• Adjusts equipment per physician orders to establish protocol.
• Attaches ECG leads and operates the ECG machine to obtain readings.
• Delivers supplies, equipment, medications, and other materials safely.
• Interacts with ECG management systems to finalize charges and verify patient data.
• Keeps patients relaxed and interacts professionally.
• Maintains a compassionate, service-oriented attitude.
• Prioritizes STAT ECGs and coordinates with unit staff.
• Safely transfers patients between units.
• Transports patients, equipment, supplies, specimens, and morgue patients as required.
