Job summary

Yale New Haven Health seeks a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to serve as Cardiac Surgery First Assist within the Yale New Haven Health system, based in New Haven, CT. This full-time role features a Monday–Friday schedule with four 10-hour shifts (7a–5p) and on-call duties, totaling 40 hours weekly.

The role involves clinical care, operative assistance as first/second assistant when required, patient education, documentation, and participation in quality and professional development

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current or eligible licensure as a Physician Assistant in Connecticut.
• Ability to function in a high-acuity cardiac surgery environment and support a busy service.
• Participation in call rotation; approximately one weeknight call per week and one weekend per month.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, triage, and therapeutic management as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Assist in operative cases as first or second assistant per scope and prerequisites.
• Ensure documentation per hospital/regulatory requirements.
• Maintain high professional and ethical standards and participate in safety reporting.
• Contribute to education and precept NP/PA students as needed.
