Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (with RNFA) to join our fast-paced Cardiac Surgery OR team. The APP will deliver expert perioperative care, collaborate with physicians and staff, and support innovation and clinical excellence across the continuum.

This role features a 4x10 schedule with rotating weekends (about 8–10 per year), no night shifts, but overnight call coverage may occur.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited nursing school or PA program.
• Acute care certification and RNFA are required for APRNs.
• Current Illinois RN and APRN licenses with national certification as approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board.
• Privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO).
• Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation – BLS certification by the American Heart Association.
• Cardiac Surgery experience.

Responsibilities

• Conducts comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations in clinical area.
• Provides direct clinical care to patients.
• Prescribes/orders medications and tests; interprets results according to clinical privileges.
• Evaluates patients to determine need for further health care.
• Provides comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
• Documents in the medical record all care and education provided and procedures performed.
• Refer to other disciplines as appropriate.
• Consultant to other disciplines in area of expertise.
• Integrates research-based knowledge into decision making.
• Participates in quality improvement and/or research initiatives.
