Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The Barnes-Jewish Hospital Cardiac Diagnostic Lab provides non-invasive diagnostic services to inpatient and outpatient populations in conjunction with our partners, Washington University Physicians. The department provides services such as Transthoracic Echocardiograms (TTE), Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE), Stress Echocardiograms, Nuclear Stress Tests, Treadmill Exercise Stress Tests, Event and Holter Monitors, and EKG Processing.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of nursing care standards.

Responsibilities
  • Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on managing their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Engages in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individualized care plans with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver, in accordance with established standards. Ensures communication of the care plan across the continuum.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards. Assesses patient preferences, values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is essential.
