Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8AM - 4:30PM

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Cardiac Sonographer performs diagnostic, non-invasive, and invasive cardiac exams using ultrasound testing equipment to evaluate the heart. Testing modalities include Transthoracic Echocardiography, Transesophageal Echocardiography, and Cardiac Stress testing. On-Call is required.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs high-quality diagnostic echocardiography examinations adhering to protocol, with clinical deviations when necessary.
• Prepares patients for procedures, explaining the process and instructions to ensure cooperation and minimize anxiety.
• Administers imaging enhancement agents following department policies.
• Contacts referring physicians for clarification if exam orders seem incorrect.
• Uses electronic medical records to review patient info, document findings, and report critical results.
• Completes tasks promptly and efficiently.
• Aligns behaviors with the Mission and Values of Bon Secours Mercy Health and complies with legal and ethical standards.
• Follows safety, infection control, and confidentiality policies.
• Demonstrates proficiency in non-invasive and invasive cardiac exams.
• Maintains knowledge of cardiac anatomy, procedures, interpretation, and correlates exam results with other hospital data.

Licensing/Certification

Credentialed in echocardiography by ARDMS (RDCS) or CCI (RCS) at hire. BLS certification (American Heart Association) is preferred upon hire and required before direct patient care.

Education

Associates degree in health science, cardiovascular technology, ultrasonography, or related field (preferred).

Work Experience

At least one year of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer (preferred).

Training

Experience with EPIC EHR and PACS systems (preferred).
