Job summary

AdvantageCare Physicians is hiring a Cardiac Sonographer to perform echocardiogram studies, supporting cardiology with accurate imaging and measurements in a busy New York practice.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years of echo experience, RDCS/RCS certification, and BLS. You will work with a multidisciplinary team in a high-quality care environment, following safety and quality protocols.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Formal training and completion of coursework from an accredited sonography school.
• RDCS or RCS certification from ARDMS or CCI.
• Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Operate echocardiogram equipment to perform cardiac ultrasound imaging studies.
• Provide diagnostic echo images with correct views and measurements for Echo studies.
• Review patient history and physician instructions.
• Explain procedures to patients and record relevant medical history.
• Prepare equipment and patient for procedures.
• Monitor patient flow and communicate delays to patients.
• Communicate critical results to the care team and seek additional views if needed.
• Check email and task lists to stay informed during the day.
• Assist with orientation of new sonographers.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Summary of Position

Perform echocardiogram studies using ultrasound equipment to create images of the heart used to assist the cardiologist with diagnosis of cardiovascular pathology.

Principal Accountabilities

• Operate echocardiogram equipment to perform cardiac ultrasound imaging studies.
• Provide excellent diagnostic echo images, correct views and accurate measurement for Transthoracic Echoes and Stress Echoes. Comply with patient care, safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures while performing studies.
• Review patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions.
• Explain procedure to patient and record any additional medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed.
• Prepare equipment and patient for procedure.
• Monitor patient flow in exam rooms and waiting room(s). Proactively resolve patient flow issues related to the clinical visit process. Keep patients informed of any delays.
• Communicate critical results to the ordering provider and/or care team. Solicit feedback regarding pathology critical findings and additional views that may need to be performed.
• Check email correspondence, electronic task lists, and other written communication regularly throughout the business day to enable timely knowledge of and response to written correspondence.
• Assist with the orientation of new sonographers.
• Perform other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education, Training, Licenses, Certifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Formal training and completion of course work from an accredited sonography school
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Relevant Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• One to two years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer preferred
• Greater than 900 clinical hours of documented echo scanning in combination with a RDCS or RCS Registry certification
• Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to explain technical procedures to patients
• Demonstrated competence in Cardiac testing and EKG. Ability to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriatelyDemonstrated ability to work independently
• Demonstrated basic computer skills including typing
• Experience performing mathematical and scientific calculations.
