Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
• BSN preferred.
• Current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner in the state of work.
• BLS required per policy guidelines.
• 2 years of experience in the field of clinical specialty preferred.
• Professional certification in the field within 2 years if not currently certified.
• Additional education, training, certifications or experience may be required by the nurse leader.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and assists patients and their families in acquiring clinical information and education.
• Uses teaching-learning theory and lifestyle counseling principles.
• Individualizes instructions for people of all ages, incorporating cultural preferences, health beliefs and learning styles.
• Adheres to Standards of Practice for the field.
• Develops and updates educational information for patients and staff.
• Evaluates patient and family responses to education and care.
• Serves as a resource to nursing staff and other healthcare personnel.
• Keeps up to date with new techniques and evidence-based practices.
• Demonstrates strong critical thinking and interpersonal communication skills.
• Documents patient assessment, education, barriers, interventions and outcomes.
