Job summary

BARNES-JEWISH Hospital at Washington University Medical Center, the largest hospital in Missouri, seeks a Staff Nurse (RN) in the Division 2100 cardiology unit. You will provide direct patient care, collect vital data, and coordinate with the nursing team to ensure safe patient environments.

Responsibilities include administering ADLs, documenting care, and assisting with patient education while upholding safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) credential preferred or required.
• Must be certified in BLS and obtain ACLS within 1 year.
• No prior experience required for entry on this division.

• Nights: 7pm-7:30am
• Every 3rd weekend. 1 Summer holiday, 1 Winter holiday

Division 2100 is a fast paced high risk cardiology division at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. We care for a variety of cardiology patients including congestive heart failure, left ventricular assist devices, post cardiac device implantation, post EP and Stent procedures. The Staff Nurse (RN) is an integral part of the patient care team using critical thinking skills and clinical expertise to continually assess the patients' status. The Staff Nurse (RN) must be certified in BLS and obtain ACLS certification within 1 year of working on the division.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care to support the licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the nursing team which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition.

Responsibilities

• Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested.
• Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
