Job summary

Bon Secours is seeking a Surgical Assistant for the Cardiac Team at Maryview Medical Center. The role supports intra-operative procedures, prepares the cardiac surgical room and ensures patient safety with the surgeon's supervision.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, completed Surgical Assistant program, and is certified or eligible to practice in Virginia, with at least two years of OR experience. The position offers competitive pay and a sign-on bonus up to $10K.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Completion of a Surgical Assistant Program (required).
• Certification: CSA/NSAA/NCCSA (required) depending on state.
• Virginia Board of Medicine registration as Surgical Assistant (required in VA).

Responsibilities

• Serve as the surgical assistant on assigned cardiac surgery cases.
• Handle tissue, provide exposure, use instruments, sutures and hemostasis.
• Perform wound closure, knot tying and irrigation, follow policy.
• Assist in draping to establish sterile field per standards.
• Assist with applying dressings and maintain patient safety.
• Maintain a hazard-free environment and communicate patient info clearly.
