Job summary

Sanford Health is seeking a Cardiac Technician to perform non-invasive cardiac tests and monitor heart functions under supervision. Responsibilities include placing electrodes (EKG/telemetry), calibrating equipment, and providing patient care for comfort and safety.

The role requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) with 3 years’ experience and certifications within one year (CCT/CRAT or National Telemetry). Rotating shifts with day and night coverage are available at Sioux Falls facility.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
• Minimum three years' experience as a cardiac technician.
• Within one year, obtain CCT, CRAT or National Telemetry Certification depending on department workflows.

Responsibilities

• Perform non-invasive cardiac tests and monitor heart functions.
• Place electrodes for EKG or telemetry monitoring as needed.
• Calibrate and maintain cardiology equipment to ensure accuracy.
• Provide care and counseling to cardiac patients for comfort and safety.
• Alert clinicians to critical values and changes in patient condition.
• Document patient information and test results; interpret EKG readings.

Summary

The Cardiac Technician conducts a wide range of non-invasive cardiac tests, under direct supervision, for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Job Description

Performs cardiac tests and monitors patient heart functions using diverse cardiology equipment. As needed per department, employees place electrodes correctly for an electrocardiogram (EKG) machine or telemetry (holter) monitoring and operate machines correctly. Checks, calibrates, and maintains cardiology equipment to ensure proper operation and accurate test results. Provides care and counseling for cardiac patients to ensure their comfort and safety during cardiac tests and treatments. Alerts nurses or physicians of critical values, abnormalities, or changes in patient responses. Obtains and records patient information and medical histories; interprets electrocardiogram (EKG) results and generates factual written reports. In some departments, employees will monitor multiple patients at the same time while critically interpreting rhythms and communicating concerns effectively with staff. Safely disposes of controlled substances with an RN after a dose is administered to a patient.

Qualifications

High school diploma or its equivalent is required.

Knowledge of basic cardiac anatomy and physiology. Working knowledge of basic and intermediate life threatening cardiac rhythms, special equipment used in cardiac testing, computers, and medical terminology.

1. Possess Certified Cardiographic Technician
2. Associate's degree or higher in a health science field
3. Three years' experience as a cardiac technician
4. Obtain Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT), Cardiac Rhythm Monitoring certification (CRAT) or National Telemetry Certification (National Telemetry Association) within one year into position. The department will determine which certification is appropriate per the department workflows.
