Job summary

The Charge Nurse Nights at MercyOne Trinity Health in Des Moines, IA leads the unit during the 7 PM–7 AM shift, coordinating staffing and patient care to ensure safety and quality. This role bridges front-line care with administrative duties and supports the clinical team through mentorship and problem-solving.

Ideal candidates hold an Iowa RN license, have 12–24 months of RN experience, and possess BLS certification.

Qualifications

Possession of a current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
12 months of RN experience required. 24 months preferred.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
Unit specific credentialing and education active and in good standing.

Responsibilities

Oversees daily unit operations and staffing to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
Supports clinical staff, resolves issues, and facilitates communication across care teams.
Provides mentorship, staff education, and input on hiring and scheduling.
Ensures compliance with regulatory standards, documentation, and quality initiatives.
Leads interdisciplinary rounds, huddles, and patient/family care coordination.
