Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is hiring a Cardiac Sonographer for our Olathe Hospital location. This role performs routine and complex cardiac ultrasound procedures, including echocardiograms and stress tests, with emphasis on image quality and patient safety.

The technologist will verify orders, interact with patients to explain procedures, and assist in data organization for interpretation by cardiologists.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate.
• Graduate of an accredited program in cardiac ultrasound/echocardiography or Health Science program (cardiovascular tech, ultrasound, radiologic tech, respiratory therapy or nursing).
• Training or certification in IV and UEA contrast administration.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at hire.
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credentialing within 180 days.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex cardiac ultrasound procedures including echocardiograms and stress echocardiograms (treadmill, dobutamine, bicycle).
• Assist with TEE probe imaging, cleaning and disinfection per protocol.
• Obtain patient history and verify exam orders align with indications; clarify with physician if needed.
• Ensure patient safety and comfort, communicate with patients to explain procedures and encourage cooperation.
• Organize data for interpretation, participate in interpretive sessions with physicians and provide feedback in QI activities.
