Job summary

The Cardiovascular Technician (CVT) at Akron Children's Hospital supports patient and family visits by gathering histories, obtaining vitals, and performing cardiac diagnostic procedures, including EKGs and monitor testing across Heart Center locations.

The role requires basic knowledge of pediatric and adult EKGs, familiarity with EPIC EMR, and the ability to follow physician orders, maintain equipment, educate patients, and participate in quality improvement and inventory tasks.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 5 years healthcare experience.
• BLS certification required; EKG technician cert preferred and required after 1 year.
• Experience with EPIC or similar EMR preferred.
• Knowledge of pediatric and adult EKGs and cardiac anatomy.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Perform and document vital signs, patient histories, and ordered cardiac tests (e.g., EKG, Holter, loop/event monitors, CPET, tilt table, stress tests).
• Prepare, scan, and maintain holter/event monitor kits and databases.
• Clean and restock EKG and exam rooms between patients and at end of day.
• Educate patients and families on testing procedures and follow cardiologist orders for testing.
• Perform EKGs and other testing for inpatient units as needed.
• Operate and troubleshoot cardiac testing equipment; elevate issues to Biomedical Services when necessary.
• Generate and submit test reports and usable data for physician interpretation.
• Maintain a safe environment by adhering to safety protocols and infection control standards.
• Provide administrative support, assist with quality improvement efforts, and participate in inventory tracking.
• Other duties as assigned.
