Job summary

Piedmont Heart Institute Physicians in Macon, GA is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join the Cardiac Critical Care service for night shifts. The role provides direct clinical care to critically ill adults under physician supervision.

You will lead treatment plans, order tests, perform procedures (arterial/central lines, PA catheter, chest tubes, ECMO support), and participate in research and education for the care team.

Qualifications

• Masters, Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited PA program and National Board Certification.
• Licensed as a Nurse and approved to practice as a NP by State of Georgia with National Certification.
• ICU/Critical Care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients within institutional guidelines under supervision.
• Formulates and implements a treatment plan for acute illness in collaboration with supervising physician.
• Orders and interprets diagnostic and laboratory tests.
• Performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based on patient status.
• Inserts and manages arterial/central catheters, PA catheters, chest tubes, temporary pacemakers, ECMO-related devices.
• Performs CPR and life-support drug administration; assists with ECPR and ECMO cannulations.
• Assesses status changes and initiates emergency interventions to stabilize patients.
• Contributes to clinical research and acts as an education consultant.

Responsibilities:

Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner - Cardiac Critical Care - Piedmont Heart Institute

PHI's critical care extenders provide 24-hour, on-site coverage to some of the highest acuity patients in the nation, treating and managing patients with coronary artery disease, advanced heart failure, structural heart disease, high risk percutaneous coronary interventions, arrhythmia, cardiogenic shock, percutaneous valve interventions, temporary mechanical circulatory support including ECMO, and cardiothoracic surgery including transplant and ventricular-assist device implantation.

Key Responsibilities of Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners on the Cardiac Critical Care Service include:

• Provides direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients within institutional guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the patient's physician.
• Formulates and implements a treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/or attending back-up physician(s)
• Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests
• Performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient's clinical status
• Within the credentialing standards of the Hospital, inserts and manages arterial catheters, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, and intra-aortic balloon pump catheters.
• Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and administration of life supporting drugs according to established protocols. Assists with ECPR and ECMO cannulations.
• Assesses patients for changes in status and institutes appropriate interventions, including initiation of necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient.
• Incorporates clinical research findings in the development and implementation of standards of care.
• Supports IRB approved clinical research/trials though a variety of activities.
• Serves as a clinical expert and education consultant to nursing, members of the healthcare team and to the larger community.
