Job summary

Cardinal Point Captains, Inc. seeks an experienced Captain to support Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary operations offshore from Galveston, TX. The role entails long field cruises, 12-hour days underway and 8-hour days alongside, with a schedule spanning from spring through fall.

The Captain will ensure safe navigation, vessel maintenance, and compliance with USCG/NOAA regulations, coordinating with scientists and educators onboard the 83’ R/V MANTA and associated boats.

Qualifications

• Holds a current 100-Gross Ton USCG Master License (Near Coastal or Ocean) or higher.
• Must hold or obtain (within 30 days) an ECDIS STCW certificate.
• 3–5 years of experience on NOAA or similar vessels with scientific personnel.

Responsibilities

• Operate and supervise vessel navigation and mechanical operations.
• Coordinate safety drills and safety equipment inspections.
• Oversight of deck equipment, dive gear, and emergency procedures.
• Assist in budgeting and maintaining vessel-related procedures and records.
• Coordinate crew schedules and training for vessel operations.
• Represent the organization in interagency meetings as needed.
