Job summary

Core Group Resources seeks a Captain of Towing to lead vessel operations with a focus on safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. This role supervises crew, vessel, and tow, and serves as the Officer in Charge of the Navigation Watch to ensure safe navigation and seaworthiness.

The ideal candidate will uphold security and environmental protection standards, manage training and drills, and maintain records, logs, and reports.

Qualifications

  • Valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s Credential.
  • Valid 200 Ton License as Master.
  • Master of Towing.
  • STCW Certification.
  • Valid Radar Endorsement.
  • First Aid/CPR.
  • Fire Fighting Training.
  • Valid TWIC card.
  • NY Harbor Experience.
  • Z drive/Twin Screw Tugboat Experience.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and manage the vessel safely and efficiently, including performance oversight of crew, vessel, and tow.
  • Serve as Officer in Charge of the Navigation Watch, ensuring safe navigation at all times.
  • Assess and maintain vessel seaworthiness, including the availability and serviceability of lifesaving and firefighting equipment.
  • Implement and uphold vessel security protocols, including the AWO Alternative Security Program as Vessel Security Officer (VSO).
  • Ensure accommodations are maintained in a safe, clean condition and provide clear direction to subordinates.
  • Prepare and conduct periodic performance evaluations for crew members.
  • Maintain vessel and crew readiness for emergency responses, including conducting audits and inspections.
  • Operate and maintain the vessel in accordance with safety, security, quality, and environmental policies outlined in the Vessel Operations Manual.
  • Organize and conduct training, drills, and exercises to ensure preparedness.
  • Complete and maintain all required records, logs, and reports accurately.
  • Ensure adequate vessel manning and watch schedules are maintained.
  • Project a professional image and foster positive relationships with customers, pilots, terminal personnel, and the public.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the General Manager or designated representative.
