Job summary

Selective Insurance in New Jersey seeks an experienced Corporate Underwriter Leader for the CAPS market to steer strategy, growth, and profitability across social services, municipalities, schools, senior living, and religious institutions.

This role partners with product, actuarial, claims and field teams; leads a team of subject matter experts, drives underwriting guidelines, and engages with customers to balance risk with competitive opportunities.

Managing small projects; Excellent customer service, networking and relationship building skills; Strong sales and negotiation skills; Strong problem-solving ability, and excellent presentation skills; Proven leadership capability.

Responsibilities

Set and advance the underwriting strategy for the CAPS market segment, ensuring a broad, generalist underwriting appetite complemented by specialty niches.
Generate actionable insights at portfolio, line, segment, class of business, market size and regional levels to drive growth and profitability.
Monitor external factors affecting customers and develop strategies to capitalize on opportunities or mitigate risk.
Identify opportunities for segment expansion and product development, partnering with Product teams on tech solutions.
Lead and develop a team of subject matter experts handling referrals and consultations with regional underwriters, with coaching and knowledge transfer.
Provide underwriting expertise on the segment's most complex risks for referrals and consultations.
