Job summary

State of Iowa in Des Moines is seeking a full-time Capitol security professional to perform planned security checks at the State Capitol entrance points and patrol the Capitol and Miller Office Building to deter threats and protect people and property.

The role features a 30-hour week with a rotating shift pattern (Thursday-Friday-Saturday, off Sunday, then Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday, followed by six days off). Interviews begin Oct 2026; employment may start as early as November.

Qualifications

• Requires a BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university and five years of professional security/law enforcement experience.
• High School Diploma, GED, or military experience with related security/law enforcement experience in excess of five years may substitute for education.
