Job summary

The Maryland Department of General Services seeks a Police Officer Trainee to begin as entry-level law enforcement personnel in the Maryland Capitol Police. Trainees attend a training academy, learn law enforcement duties, and may work night, weekend, and holiday shifts as emergency essential staff.

Upon academy completion and field training, candidates advance to higher pay. This is a full-time position based in Baltimore, with a structured selection process and required pre-employment

Qualifications

• Education: high school diploma or equivalent as approved by the Maryland State Board.
• Experience: none required for entry as a Police Officer Trainee.

Responsibilities

• Learn to enforce Local, State and Federal laws under supervision.
• Attend Police Training Academy and complete required courses.
• Maintain readiness for duty including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Participate in physical agility, background checks, and screenings as part of selection.
