Job summary

Duke University is seeking an Assistant Manager, Capital Projects to drive planning, design and construction of campus capital improvements. You will work with clients, consultants and Facilities Management to deliver safe, high‑quality facilities that meet goals, budgets and schedules.

You will independently manage smaller projects and support larger initiatives, ensuring alignment with university standards and sustainable outcomes throughout inception to closeout.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or related experience in design and construction.
• Knowledge of design processes, construction methodologies and building systems.
• Ability to read construction drawings, specs, contracts and related documents.
• Strong organizational skills to handle multiple projects.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software.
• Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to operate safely on active construction sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, design and construction of assigned capital projects from concept through completion.
• Coordinate with clients and stakeholders to identify requirements, priorities and schedules.
• Develop capital project submissions for leadership approval and manage committees.
• Collaborate with design, utilities, operations and schools throughout the lifecycle.
• Oversee consultant and contractor performance, budgets and schedules.
