Job summary

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) seeks an Investigator to assist with reviews of capital construction contracts, processes, procurement, and billings to identify fraud and abuse. You will analyze risk, mismanagement, and safety concerns and formulate impactful recommendations.

You will work with a team to plan, conduct, and report on investigations and interviews, draft memoranda, and contribute to formal reports and testimony in hearings as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in fields such as construction management, engineering, architecture, business, public administration, accounting with 3+ years of experience OR a trade license with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, impartial judgment, and investigative/research aptitude.
• Experience interviewing field personnel and gathering and analyzing information.

Responsibilities

• Assist with reviews of the MTA capital construction contracts, processes, procurement, billings, and management to identify fraud and abuse.
• Identify risk, mismanagement, and safety concerns and formulate recommendations.
• Plan, conduct, and report on investigations and reviews regarding MTA’s capital construction and maintenance programs.
• Interview agency personnel, vendors, and contractors who conduct business with the MTA.
• Analyze contracts, billings, inspection records, payroll and other records for audit or investigation objectives.
• Draft memoranda of interviews and investigative efforts.
• Prepare reports identifying recommendations and conclusions.
• Testify in administrative hearings and other court proceedings as required.
• Develop and maintain professional working relationships and stay informed on evolving MTA operations.
