Job summary

Lockheed Martin is seeking a Staff Design-for-Reliability Engineer to guarantee reliability and maintainability in capital equipment from day one. You will influence total cost of ownership, uptime, and warranty exposure, collaborating across Production Operations, Facilities Maintenance, and Engineering to embed DfR in design and procurement.

The role emphasizes mentoring, reliability budgeting, and proactive risk assessments, including supplier reliability data reviews and MTBF.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Facilities Engineering (or a closely related discipline).
• Minimum 5 years of reliability-engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to translate reliability concepts into clear specifications, reports, and presentations for non-technical stakeholders.
• Cross-functional collaboration across Production Operations, Procurement, Facilities, Engineering, Health-Safety.

Responsibilities

• Develop SOWs and technical specifications with reliability requirements for new equipment.
• Include reliability concepts in capital project budgets; balance upfront cost with reliability savings.
• Evaluate vendor designs against DfR criteria and ensure reliability tests are included.
• Support commissioning and handover with failure‑mode monitoring plans and maintenance strategies.
• Mentor facilities engineers and maintain a shared DfR handbook and templates.
