Job Summary:
The qualified individual will monitor the IBM System z/OS Mainframe Systems using government approved tools and processes, and document potential performance bottlenecks and issues.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Use capacity analysis tools (including Statistical Analysis System (SAS), MXG, MICS, RMF, SMF, and system monitoring products) and processes to plan, produce, analyze, and distribute reports (both scheduled and ad hoc).
- Utilize government approved software products to take or recommend corrective action to alleviate performance bottlenecks.
- Provide planning, development, and implementation of production software performance standards and procedures.
- Perform planning, testing, and document requirements for systems tuning.
- Provide written and oral analysis and detailed information on causes of system workload issues.
- Perform analysis, including capacity analysis, workload analysis and assist with planning and coordination for implementation of system hardware data configurations (HCDs).
- Develop and deliver plans, capacity analysis, and reports in support of application movement between LPARS.
- Use government approved software tools (including IBM SMP/E, IEBGENER, IEBCOPY, FTP, and SFTP) to assist in the implementation of z/OS upgrades.
- Plan, develop, execute and document performance studies using standard DISA IBM z/OS tool sets.
- Conduct technical and diagnostic analysis of IBM z/OS and IBM z/VM mainframe system hardware and software systems.
- Plan, define, and conduct reviews of current and projected workload.
- Plan, develop, document and implement performance evaluation techniques and optimization procedures.
- Develop, prepare and maintain performance-related documentation, reports, charts and workflow systems.
- Plan, develop, document and implement plans for equipment installation or reconfiguration of installed or new hardware and software.
- Develop, document, and deliver benchmark specifications and acceptance testing requirements.
- Plan, build, document and support performance reporting web pages.
- Develop, document and deliver pre- and post- implementation analysis for system and application migrations.
- Plan, develop and document requirements for SYSPLEX implementation.
- Create, modify, debug and execute IBM Job Control Language (JCL) to create processes to gather and generate capacity analysis reports.
- Plan, create, document and implement IBM z/OS WLM definitions and requirements.
- Use IBM z/OS TSO/ISPF to create, modify and debug required JCL processes.
- Plan, create, modify, debug and run programs using an IBM mainframe programming language (including SAS, REXX, Control List, S/370 Assembler, COBOL, HTML, C++) to analyze and interpret capacity data.
- Provide mainframe capacity analysis based on current and historical system usage data.
