Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Medical Interpreter Certification or approved program with competency exam.
• Bilingual in English and target language.

Responsibilities

• Interprets between English and target language for patients, physicians and staff.
• Combine language and cultural interpretation to reduce misunderstandings.
• Participates in family meetings to assist with forms and financial aid.
• Contacts non-English speaking patients for consent and appointment notifications.
• May accompany patients to procedures and participate in care conferences.
• Translates documents and communications from English to target language.
• May take on-call requests for emergencies outside standard hours.
• Maintains collaborative relationships to support team goals.
• Adheres to policies and confidentiality requirements.
• Reports concerns to leadership as required.
• Ensures compliance with HIPAA/HITECH and regulatory guidelines.
• Engages in mandatory training and in-services.
