The Canrig Shop Mechanic III performs advanced inspection, disassembly, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, assembly, and functional testing of Canrig and related drilling equipment in a repair-shop environment. The role restores equipment to approved operational and quality requirements, identifies repair needs, records work performed, supports safe and efficient shop execution, and shares practical technical knowledge with less-experienced team members.

Mechanical Repair and Equipment Overhaul

Primary Skills:

• Inspect, disassemble, clean, repair, overhaul, assemble, and prepare mechanical components and drilling equipment for return to service in accordance with approved work instructions and specifications.
• Diagnose mechanical faults, wear, damage, alignment issues, and component failure conditions; identify required parts and **escalate** conditions outside authorized repair limits.
• Use hand tools, power tools, torque tools, pullers, presses, and other approved shop equipment to complete repairs accurately and safely.
• Perform light hydraulic support, limited to routine visual inspection, leak identification, hose or fitting replacement, and basic functional checks under approved procedures.

Inspection, Measurement, and Functional Testing

Primary Skills:

• Review equipment condition before and during repair, and identify damaged, worn, missing, or nonconforming components.
• Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, torque tools, and other precision instruments to verify dimensions, clearances, torque values, and repair acceptance criteria.
• Conduct approved mechanical and basic functional tests after assembly; document results and correct deficiencies before job closure.
• Protect equipment quality by following inspection points, hold points, verification requirements, and escalation protocols.

Preventive Maintenance and Work Readiness

Primary Skills:

• Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and service activities for assigned mechanical equipment and shop assets.
• Identify developing equipment issues and communicate repair needs, unsafe conditions, or work interruptions to the appropriate supervisor.
• Inspect assigned tools and equipment before use and remove damaged or unserviceable items from operation in accordance with shop requirements.
• Organize work steps, materials, parts, and tools to support safe, continuous, and efficient job progress.

Safety, Quality, and Technical Team Support

Primary Skills:

• Follow required safety, environmental, quality, and shop procedures; use personal protective equipment and materials as designed.
• Participate in pre-job planning, hazard identification, and risk controls for assigned repair and testing activities.
• Maintain an orderly work area and handle equipment, tools, parts, lubricants, and waste in accordance with applicable requirements.
• Share repair techniques, equipment knowledge, and job-specific guidance with less-experienced mechanics while remaining accountable for assigned work.
• Coordinate with supervisors, quality personnel, materials teams, and other functions to resolve technical or workflow issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 4-7 years of progressively responsible mechanical repair, industrial equipment maintenance, drilling-equipment repair, or closely related experience.
• Demonstrated ability to inspect, troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, assemble, and test mechanical equipment.
• Working knowledge of mechanical components and diesel-powered or industrial equipment applicable to assigned repairs.
• Ability to interpret work instructions, mechanical drawings, schematics, specifications, tolerances, and approved repair procedures.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and precision measuring instruments safely and accurately.
• Ability to use required personal protective equipment. Respirator use, when required by the assigned task, is subject to applicable medical evaluation, fit testing, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Vocational, technical, or apprenticeship training in industrial mechanics, diesel mechanics, machining, millwright work, or a related discipline.
• Experience repairing Canrig or other OEM drilling equipment, including top drives, powered catwalks, drawworks, mud pumps, or related mechanical assemblies.
