Job summary

IndyHumane’s Canine Enrichment Coordinator plays a key role in maintaining the well‑being of shelter dogs through enrichment, training, handling, and behavior support. Working with the Manager, Canine Enrichment, this role helps implement protocols that promote quality of life and lifesaving outcomes.

The position collaborates with staff and volunteers to provide daily exercise, enrichment, and behavioral updates, ensuring safe, humane handling and consistent care across the shelter environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of professional experience in animal welfare
• Demonstrated canine handling skills
• Knowledge of IndyHumane canine enrichment and handling programming
• Animal shelter experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized enrichment based on each dog’s behavioral and emotional needs.
• Monitor canine behavioral well-being and maintain documentation.
• Train staff and volunteers in handling techniques.
• Assist with adoption counseling for dogs with behavioral considerations.
• Conduct dog-to-dog introductions for adopters when requested.
• Support playgroups and enrichment program execution.
