Job summary

The City of New York’s Department of Correction seeks an Investigator (Discipline) to join the Applicant Investigation Unit. Under general supervision, you will conduct background checks, prepare reports, coordinate schedules, and interview candidates to assess suitability for the Correction Officer role.

You will verify documents, run cross-checks for authenticity, conduct field outreach, and support special projects.

Qualifications

Four-year high school diploma and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in one or more relevant fields or roles.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
Education and/or experience equivalent to the above options.

Responsibilities

Ensure candidate background checks are sent out and received.
Prepare reports, plans and coordinate investigation schedules and assignments.
Run background checks through EJustice, IIS, IFCOM, Webcrims, and watchdog registries.
Contact and interview candidates, gather information through collateral contacts.
Formulate questions and verify authenticity of submitted documents.
Perform field visits to businesses, communities and other contacts.
Review social media profiles and other sources for vetting accuracy.
Perform related work and special projects.
