Job summary

Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center invites nursing students to apply for the Summer Nurse Externship in the Cancer Institute Inpatient Unit in Hershey, PA. The 10-week program (May 17–July 24, 2027) includes orientation and RN-guided bedside care, with hands-on practice in hematology/oncology settings.

Externs learn physical assessment, basic nursing skills, and teamwork in a dynamic inpatient environment, preparing for professional nursing practice after graduation.

Qualifications

• Nursing student in final year of an accredited Nursing Program with at least one clinical rotation.
• Graduate Nurse without board eligibility may apply.

Responsibilities

• Assist with basic bedside care under RN supervision.
• Learn and demonstrate physical assessment skills.
• Participate in orientation and nursing procedures during externship.
• Support chemotherapy safety training and oncology care tasks.
