Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Cancer Registry Abstractor to extract and abstract data from medical records for the Rhode Island Hospital cancer registry. The role supports annual reports, site studies, and data requests, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate holds a CTR certification and has experience with registry data, using IMPAC or similar databases. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• College-level knowledge of computer operations and software applications.
• Knowledge of cancer registry data collection requirements and data management systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to interact with data users within and outside the Hospital.

Responsibilities

• Operate computers and software to develop, maintain and report computerized records.
• Respond to user questions about system functionality and usage.
• Abstract cancer registry cases with supporting data from medical records.
• Use registry software to manage data imports/exports and generate reports.
• Export daily cancer care data to Rhode Island State Department of Health.
• Review patient records for accuracy of identification, diagnosis, treatment history, and staging.
• Ensure data quality by resolving discrepancies and following regulatory standards.
• Maintain and update system manuals and assist in training.
• Occasionally travel to continuing education programs.
