Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, WA is seeking an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) to abstract cancer cases, support case finding and follow ups, and assist with data release under HIPAA guidelines.

You will collaborate with the Cancer Registry team, ensure adherence to NAACCR and SEER guidelines, and contribute to CoC survey preparations. Strong analytical skills and experience with CNEXT or Epic are preferred; this role requires independent decision-making and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Oncology Data Specialist (ODS)
• 2+ years of experience in Cancer Registry, preferably hospital setting.
• Deep knowledge of NAACCR data items, Solid Tumor Rules, AJCC staging, SEER rules.
• Ability to utilize cancer registry resources such as CAForum and SEER Inquiries.
• Ability to analyze and interpret medical and treatment information.
• Excellent time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Capable of working independently and making decisions.

Responsibilities

• Abstract cancer cases per CoC and WSCR guidelines.
• Provide support in case finding and follow ups.
• Determine case reportability.
• Contribute to Rapid Cancer Reporting System (RCRS) data collection.
• Attend monthly Cancer Registry meetings and discuss abstractions.
• Participate in SEER Educate trainings.
• Resolve abstraction discrepancies with team.
• Assist in releasing information per HIPAA guidelines.
• Generate suspense reports and assist in materials for registry.
• Prepare for CoC Survey and related activities.
• Other duties as assigned.
