Job summary

Gunnison Valley Health is seeking a Cancer Center Access Coordinator to support the Oncology Clinic. You will handle patient pre-registration, registration, scheduling, and coordinating with clinical teams to ensure timely care and accurate records.

The role requires knowledge of patient access processes, insurance verification and prior authorizations. Epic EHR experience is preferred, with CHAA certification as a plus. This on-site position offers a comprehensive benefits package in Colorado.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Education or equivalent.
  • Experience in patient access, registration, medical office administration, scheduling, or healthcare coordination.
  • Experience with Epic or equivalent electronic health record preferred.
  • Certification in Patient Access (CHAA) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Completes pre-registration and registration for Cancer Center clinic and infusion services with accurate demographics and insurance data.
  • Explains insurance coverage and patient financial responsibilities and coordinates financial counseling when needed.
  • Coordinates scheduling of hematology, oncology and infusion clinic and related appointments with the clinical team.
  • Communicates with referring offices to obtain medical records and ensures documentation is in the electronic health record.
  • Assists in arranging discharge needs and follow-up procedures.

Cancer Center Access Coordinator

This position includes a full range of support to include admitting and discharging patients, scheduling, answering phones completing prior authorizations, orienting new employees, and addressing any corrective issues. Requirements:

To be seriously considered for this role, you’ll need to have:

  • Education: High School Education or equivalent
  • Experience:Previous experience in patient access, registration, medical office administration, scheduling, or healthcare coordination preferred. Experience in oncology, infusion services, specialty medicine, or hospital-based services strongly preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, prior authorization processes, referral management, and healthcare regulatory requirements preferred. Experience with Epic or equivalent electronic health record preferred.
  • Licenses/Certification: Certification in Patient Access (CHAA) preferred but not required.
Responsibilities:

We are committed to improving the health of our community by delivering exceptional care and services. As part of the team in the Oncology Clinic, you will:

  • Completes pre-registration and registration for Cancer Center clinic and infusion services, ensuring accurate patient demographics, insurance, contact, guarantor information, patient identification, and required signatures and regulatory documentation.
  • Explains applicable insurance coverage and patient financial responsibilities, collects payments as appropriate, create accurate estimates of patient financial responsibility, and connects patients with financial counseling or assistance resources when needed.
  • Coordinates scheduling of hematology, oncology and infusion clinic, infusion, follow-up, and other Cancer Center appointments in collaboration with patients and the clinical team to support timely care and efficient use of Cancer Center resources.
  • Communicates with referring offices and outside healthcare organizations to obtain necessary medical records, pathology, imaging, laboratory results, and other documentation required for patient care, and ensures information is appropriately incorporated into the electronic health record and available to the clinical team.
  • Assist in arranging discharge needs including follow up appointments, home therapy and any follow up diagnostic procedures.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday
Shift: Weekdays, 8 hour shifts
Physical Requirements:

Occasionally (1-33%) -Feeling, crouching/squatting, stooping, kneeling, stairs, lifting/lowering, carrying, pushing/pulling (0-50 lbs),

Frequently (34-66%) -Standing, walking, sitting, change position, reaching, reach across midline, fingering, handling

Continuously (37-100%) - Must be able to see with corrective eyewear, must be able to hear clearly with assistance

Compensation: $18.00 - $22.50/hr, depending on experience.
