Job summary

The University of Houston Police Department seeks a Security Officer to provide physical security for university buildings and support campus safety. You will monitor access, respond to incidents, and coordinate with the police department as needed.

No prior experience is required; basic computer skills and a high school diploma are sufficient. The position requires night, weekend, and overtime shifts, a valid Texas driver’s license, and the ability to pass background checks and drug screening.

Qualifications

• Basic grammar, spelling and punctuation knowledge.
• Proficient with computer and Microsoft Office suite.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must pass criminal history and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Unlocks/locks doors and checks floors for unsecured doors.
• Monitors entry and sign-in/out log; respond to incidents.
• Monitors security cameras and radio traffic; report malfunctions.
• Answers phones and greets visitors; provides information.
• Maintains emergency contact with university police and prepares reports.
• May accept parcels and deliver to floors or staff.
• May monitor entry to gated parking; patrol assigned areas.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
