Job summary

The University of Houston Police Department seeks a Security Officer to provide physical security for university buildings and support campus safety. You will monitor access, respond to incidents, and coordinate with the police department as needed.

No prior experience is required; basic computer skills and a high school diploma are sufficient. The position requires night, weekend, and overtime shifts, a valid Texas driver’s license, and the ability to pass background checks and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Answers phones and greets visitors; provides information.
• Maintains emergency contact with university police and prepares reports.
• May accept parcels and deliver to floors or staff.
• May monitor entry to gated parking; patrol assigned areas.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Description:

Provides physical security for a university building. Pursuantto the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this positionresearches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure andrequires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of theUniversity infrastructure. This position requires personnel beroutinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history orcontinuous connections for the government or political apparatus ofa foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able tomaintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

• 1. Unlocks and locks doors and checks all floors for unsecureddoors.
• 2. Monitors entry into the building and maintains sign-in/outlog.
• 3. Monitors security cameras and radio traffic; alerts properpersonnel of camera malfunctions.
• 4. Answers the telephone and greets visitors; providesinformation and directions.
• 5. Provides immediate contact with the university's policedepartment in case of an emergency; prepares incident reports.
• 6. May accept parcel packages and deliver them to designatedfloors or staff.
• 7. May monitor and control entry into a gated parking lot.
• 8. Patrols assigned areas to check for criminal activity, ruleviolations, and irregularities.
• 9. Performs other job‑related duties assigned.

MQ: Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuationand simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. asmight normally be acquired through attainment of a high schooldiploma or GED.

No experience is required.

Requires a valid Texas Driver's License.
