The University of Houston Police Department seeks a Security Officer to provide physical security for university buildings and support campus safety. You will monitor access, respond to incidents, and coordinate with the police department as needed.

No prior experience is required; basic computer skills and a high school diploma are sufficient. The position requires night, weekend, and overtime shifts, a valid Texas driver’s license, and the ability to pass background checks and drug screening.

Description:

Provides physical security for a university building. Pursuantto the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this positionresearches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure andrequires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of theUniversity infrastructure. This position requires personnel beroutinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history orcontinuous connections for the government or political apparatus ofa foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able tomaintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

• 1. Unlocks and locks doors and checks all floors for unsecureddoors.
• 2. Monitors entry into the building and maintains sign-in/outlog.
• 3. Monitors security cameras and radio traffic; alerts properpersonnel of camera malfunctions.
• 4. Answers the telephone and greets visitors; providesinformation and directions.
• 5. Provides immediate contact with the university's policedepartment in case of an emergency; prepares incident reports.
• 6. May accept parcel packages and deliver them to designatedfloors or staff.
• 7. May monitor and control entry into a gated parking lot.
• 8. Patrols assigned areas to check for criminal activity, ruleviolations, and irregularities.
• 9. Performs other job‑related duties assigned.

MQ: Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuationand simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. asmight normally be acquired through attainment of a high schooldiploma or GED.

No experience is required.

Requires a valid Texas Driver's License.

• Must be able to work nights, weekends and overtimeassignments.

• Must pass Background Investigation prior to employment.

Environmental:

The employee maybe exposed to inclement weather conditions;extensive public contact with student, faculty and staff.

Employees are required to work various assigned shifts, includingdays, evenings, nights and weekends and may be required to remain attheir post for an additional shift. All staff are “essential personnel” and arerequired to report to work during inclement weather.

Physical:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in alaw enforcement setting and an office setting; restrain or subdue individuals;walk, stand, sit, or run for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch,reach, and twist; occasionally climb and balance; ability to operate and usespecialized law enforcement tools and equipment.
