Job summary

Drury University is seeking a campus security professional to protect faculty, staff, students and property. You will patrol, inspect buildings, document irregularities, and coordinate with police and emergency responders as needed.

Requirements include completion of extensive training, strong observation skills, communication abilities, and a valid driver’s license. The role involves shift work, incident reporting, and ensuring campus safety 24/7.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of initial training certification within 60 days of employment: Defensive Tactics, O.C. Spray, First Aid, CPR/AED, Hazardous Materials, and Report Writing.
• Ability to visually inspect the campus.
• Ability to use a cellular phone, two-way radio, and personal computer.
• Attention to detail in order to notice and record irregularities.
• Good judgment in order to handle emergencies.
• Ability to function under pressure to respond to emergencies.
• Ability to read and write at a level normally obtained in high school to record data.
• Interpersonal communication skills with campus community, visitors, and emergency personnel.
• Ability to use baton and OC Spray for self-protection.
• Ability to use a flashlight for night observation.
• Ability to use handcuffs to temporarily detain suspects.

Responsibilities

• Patrols university property by vehicle and on foot.
• Walks throughout the campus entering buildings and climbing stairs to inspect property.
• Examines doors and windows for fire and safety hazards.
• Documents irregularities and reports.
• Detains violators temporarily for police if necessary.
• Secures buildings as scheduled and unlocks for authorized personnel.
• Communicates information via security cellular phone and grants access to locked buildings.
• Reports emergencies to the Director of Safety & Security.
• Completes daily offense and incident reports and vehicle crash reports.
• Issues campus citations for policy violations.
• Responds to emergency calls and notifies appropriate personnel.
