Job summary

The University of Pikeville seeks a dynamic security professional to help create a safe campus where students, faculty, and staff can thrive. You will work with the Division of Student Affairs and Public Safety to protect lives and property and support a holistic safety program across the campus.

Responsibilities include patrols, checks of doors and lighting, escort services, and coordination with emergency responders. A background check is required and a valid driver’s license is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
• Must pass a thorough background check.
• One year of law enforcement or security experience.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Provide proactive patrols campus-wide on foot, in a vehicle, or other specialized vehicles.
• Examine doors, windows, and gates; monitor buildings and grant access as needed.
• Inform and warn violators of rule infractions such as loitering, smoking, or forbidden articles.
• Provide escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty; offer routine information and assistance.
• Monitor and report irregularities including security breaches and safety hazards.
• Coordinate with emergency responders such as police, fire, and EMS as required.
• Approach suspicious persons and notify police as appropriate; may confront violators until police arrive.
• Perform periodic checks of lighting; report malfunctions.
• Patrol parking areas and safeguard university keys and key cards.
• Prepare routine, standardized security reports.
• Provide specialized security in sports or other complex areas.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
