Job summary

The University of New England is seeking a Security Officer I for the Portland Campus. The role involves high-visibility patrols, CCTV monitoring, and responding to campus incidents to maintain a safe environment for students, staff and visitors.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, are preferred to have 1 year of security or law enforcement experience, and must be capable of emergency response, written reports, and collaboration with local authorities.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of security, military, or law enforcement experience preferred.
• Must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Maine.
• Must be certified or able to be certified in First Aid, CPR/AED, Narcan, Stop the Bleed and related equipment.
• Ability to train and oversee student staff when a Security Officer II is not available.
• Able to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
• Be a clear thinker with good judgment when resolving problems.
• Follow directions and commands; work well with a team.
• Willingness to train and use handcuffs and OC spray.

Responsibilities

• Patrol University property to prevent and detect signs of intrusion, theft, and life safety concerns.
• Monitor CCTV and review for security and investigations.
• Respond to campus disturbances and emergencies, including active threat situations.
• Provide prompt, courteous service to students, staff, and visitors and assist with escorts.
• Write clear, concise incident reports with supporting information (photos, video).
• Enforce campus rules and coordinate with local authorities as needed.
• Coverage at designated campus athletic events and campus snow removal operations.
• Cross training as Dispatcher and Safe Ride operator preferred.
