Job summary

The Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at Florida Atlantic University seeks a Police Service Technician at Ft. Pierce, FL to be the first point of contact for visitors, manage access at the gate, patrol campus, and assist with incident reporting.

Responsibilities include coordinating with HR and staff, unlocking buildings after hours, responding to non-emergency incidents, and providing professional security coverage to students, employees, researchers and visitors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and one year of appropriate experience required.
• Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
• Ability to type accurately and efficiently is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties as gate attendant for HBOI access control at the main entrance gate.
• Redirect visitors as appropriate to the Ocean Discovery Center.
• Patrol assigned areas of campus; secure and unlock campus buildings as needed; check for unsecured conditions.
• Report all suspicious activity discovered; assist public with information and direction.
• Provide a campus crime prevention function during rounds by advising department or persons of unsafe or unsecured conditions.
• Respond to non-emergency police incidents; prepare non-criminal police reports and assist with medical emergencies and fire alarms.
• Handle telephone and walk-in requests for assistance from the general public; prepare necessary daily reports.
