Job summary

Phoenix Union High School District is hiring a Safety Assistant to help maintain a safe learning environment across assigned schools in Arizona. The role supports student and staff safety, monitors campus access, and responds to safety concerns with professional conduct.

Responsibilities include enforcing rules, deescalating incidents, maintaining records, and participating in safety trainings. Requires a high school diploma or GED, valid AZ driver license, and CPR/first aid certifications.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND some previous experience in security or related field preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required.
• Must possess current Red Cross first aid certificate and CPR certificate at time of employment or obtain within first 60 days of employment and maintain on a current status.
• Possess an active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card or obtain one within the first 90 workdays of employment.

Responsibilities

• Monitors campus activities and events; upholds all campus and District rules and regulations.
• Monitors and assesses campus buildings and grounds to ensure only students with valid IDs or authorized persons are on campus and students do not leave grounds without authorization.
• Builds positive relationships with students and staff; supports a positive campus climate.
• Escorts disruptive students from classroom to Administration office; supervises students awaiting intervention; deescalates physical and verbal altercations.
• Informs Dispatch/Base, Safety Assistant, Campus Safety Supervisor or Safety Assistant, Senior of campus activities.
• May be required to assist safety teams at other District sites as needed.
• Participates in mandatory District/Local in-service training programs.
• Upholds confidentiality of work-related issues, records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs related duties.
