Job summary

Alexandria City Public Schools seeks an attentive School Security Officer to protect students and staff. The role involves monitoring campus security, responding to safety concerns, and coordinating with local police when needed.

The SSO will patrol multiple ACPS sites, maintain logs, and enforce district policies while upholding professional standards and a positive school environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or equivalent.
• One year of college coursework.
• Valid Driver’s License and driving record.
• DCJS School Security Officer Certification within 60 days of hire.
• CPR Certification and ongoing recertification every 2 years.
• Minimum 2 years of related work experience; security experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with police and fire personnel to address safety concerns and emergencies.
• Convey school policies clearly to students, staff, and visitors.
• Intervene to minimize injuries, disruptions, or property damage.
• Maintain detailed incident logs, security logs, and activity reports.
• Patrol ACPS properties by vehicle or on foot to ensure safety.
• Operate alarm systems, surveillance devices, and communications equipment.
• Present a professional appearance and maintain excellent attendance.
• Refer incidents to site personnel for follow-up in line with guidelines.
