Job summary

Fort Wayne Community Schools is seeking a School Security Officer for the school year to patrol and supervise campus activities, ensuring safety for students, staff and visitors. The role requires firearm qualification after training and attendance at mandatory events such as graduations, Back to School, and Registration.

The position features a Monday–Friday schedule from 6:45am to 3:15pm, with duties including incident reporting, collaboration with administrators, and enforcing district rules

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Prior law enforcement or related experience.
• Knowledge of security methods and terminology.
• Must pass all required training.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with juvenile investigations, evidence collection, mediation and conflict resolution.
• Awareness of community agencies supporting youths.
• Authorized to carry a firearm after training and FWCS approval.
• Must attend mandatory events including graduations and back-to-school.

Responsibilities

• Patrol and supervise campus to ensure safety and security.
• Enforce laws and district rules; investigate incidents and report activity.
• Collaborate with administrators on security and student behavior.
• Escort visitors, manage access, and lock/unlock doors as needed.
• Provide support to staff, locate students, and refer to admin offices.
• Monitor for illegal activity; document incidents and liaise with law enforcement.
• Respond to safety and fire hazards; participate in emergency planning.
• Prepare detailed incident reports and daily logs.
• Assist with emergency procedures and district-wide safety initiatives.
• Promote FWCS mission and core competencies in daily work.
