Job summary

Kean University in Jersey City seeks a Director of Operations to provide leadership and oversight for campus safety services. The Director will lead Public Safety personnel, develop and evaluate comprehensive safety programs, and coordinate emergency response with local and university partners, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for the campus community.

The role requires on-site work, travel and a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, with an annual salary range of $100,000

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and three years of progressive professional experience in law enforcement, public safety or security.
• Two or more years in a significant command or supervisory position.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Outstanding interpersonal, written and oral communication skills are essential.
• Knowledge of environmental health and safety, fire safety, FEMA, Clery Act and related security/emergency-management requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and operational oversight for the Jersey City Public Safety Department.
• Ensure a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.
• Lead Public Safety personnel; supervise day-to-day security operations.
• Develop and evaluate safety programs, emergency protocols, training, and standards.
• Collaborate with university leadership, campus departments, law enforcement and emergency response agencies to mitigate risks.
• Maintain on-site presence; travel and a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
• Be on-call for campus emergencies.
