Job summary

The University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN is hiring Community Service Officers (CSOs) to support officers and provide unarmed, uniformed public safety services on campus. This two-year temporary post offers a path into law enforcement with a comprehensive benefits package, including tuition reimbursement up to 100% through the Regents Scholarship.

CSOs patrol campus, advise the university community on safety, and perform a variety of duties under supervision.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an Associates or Bachelors program and at least one year of work experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal six years.
• Able to pass a background check
• Valid driver’s license
• Must meet and maintain requirements for access to law enforcement sensitive information including CJIS Data Access Terminals

Responsibilities

• Patrols the campus to provide visible presence and deter criminal activity
• Communicates relevant ordinances, rules, and policies to promote a safe campus
• Takes reports of crimes and incidents that do not require a police officer
• Responds to incidents on campus under direction of on-duty police supervisor
• Assists with escorts or patrol coverage
• Enforces University parking ordinances
• Tows vehicles as directed by police officer
• Directs traffic at crime scenes or events
• Provides first aid as needed
• Assists with community outreach
• Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned
