Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents and law enforcement.
• Strong decision-making, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
• Calm, sound judgment in emergencies and high-pressure situations.
• Ability to supervise students in various environments.
• Follow written/verbal instructions and work independently.
• Meet Code of Virginia and DCJS certification requirements within a reasonable period.

Responsibilities

• Patrol school buildings, grounds, parking lots and other areas to maintain a safe environment.
• Monitor for unsafe conditions, policy violations, and suspicious activity.
• Detect, investigate, document and report security concerns and incidents.
• Collaborate with administrators, law enforcement and community agencies to coordinate responses.
• Assist with emergencies, drills, evacuations, and safety planning.
• Maintain security records, logs, and incident reports.
• Supervise student movement and de-escalate conflicts in common areas.
• Assist with student searches in accordance with policy and law.
• Attend safety meetings and participate in daily arrival/dismissal duties.
