Job summary

Principia College in Elsah, Illinois seeks a Campus Security Officer (Non-Sworn) for full-time, 12-month operations. This role focuses on patrols, access control, visitor management, and rapid response to emergencies to maintain a safe, welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff and guests.

The position requires sound judgment, integrity, and the ability to work independently within a diverse campus community. Training includes CPR/AED certification and security-technology operations.

Qualifications

• Experience in security, higher education, public safety, emergency services, or a related field.
• CPR/AED certification at time of hire is preferred.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Patrol and security operations across campus buildings, grounds, and parking areas.
• Provide gatehouse coverage, visitor management, and access control functions.
• Respond to medical, fire, and other emergencies; coordinate with emergency services.
• Prepare incident reports and assist investigations while maintaining confidentiality.
• Provide assistance and customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
• Monitor security systems (access control, CCTV, alarms) and report deficiencies.
