Job summary

St. Norbert College seeks a Campus Safety Officer to maintain a safe and secure campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The role involves patrolling buildings and grounds, monitoring security systems, and coordinating with local law enforcement as needed.

The officer responds to emergencies, conducts patrols, and helps enforce College policies during events and daily operations. Regular hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with every other weekend required.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in Campus Safety or security roles.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • First aid/CPR/AED certifications preferred or obtainable.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol campus buildings and grounds to maintain safety and enforce policies.
  • Respond to emergencies with first aid, CPR/AED, Narcan, coordinating with responders and local law enforcement as needed.
  • Investigate incidents and prepare detailed reports, including Title IX documentation.
  • Build relationships with students, faculty, staff, visitors and partners to support campus safety.
  • Monitor safety systems, alarms, and equipment operation; report hazards.
  • Conduct safety education and training, drills, and active threat response.
  • Assist with traffic and parking management and guide campus visitors.

Job description

JOB REQUIREMENTS: St. Norbert College, a nationally ranked, private, Catholic liberal arts college, is seeking a Campus Safety Officer. This position promotes a safe and secure campus environment by maintaining a visible, uniformed presence and protecting the welfare of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Campus Safety operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing safety and security for the campus community, conference attendees, church members, guests of the Kress Inn, and other visitors.

Campus Safety Officers monitor the safety and security of campus buildings and grounds by locking and unlocking facilities, conducting foot and vehicle patrols, monitoring surveillance cameras, managing alarm and fire systems, responding to suspicious activity, and coordinating with local law enforcement when appropriate. Officers also investigate disturbances, secure campus property, maintain order during campus events, and enforce College policies and regulations.

The regular schedule for this position is 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with every other weekend required. The weekday schedule will adjust based on the assigned weekend rotation.

Specific responsibilities
  • Patrol campus buildings and grounds on foot and by vehicle to maintain a safe and secure environment, enforce College policies, and monitor security systems.
  • Respond to emergencies, including medical, mental health, fire, and security incidents, providing first aid, CPR/AED, Narcan administration, and coordinating with emergency responders and local law enforcement as needed.
  • Investigate incidents and policy violations by gathering information, reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and preparing detailed reports, including Title IX documentation.
  • Build positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and visitors by providing assistance, addressing safety concerns, and supporting Residential Education and Housing in enforcing campus regulations.
  • Monitor campus safety systems, identify and report security or facility hazards, respond to alarms, and ensure the proper operation of security and fire protection equipment.
  • Conduct campus safety education and training, including fire drills, emergency preparedness, evacuation procedures, and active threat response training.
  • Assist with traffic and parking management, provide directions and information to campus visitors, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
  • 1-2 years of experience in Campus Safety, Security, Law Enforcement, or equivalent Military experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Current first aid/CPR/AED certifications preferred or the ability to obtain.
  • Ability to learn and apply campus safety and security policies, procedures, and emergency response protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and community partners.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication Skills, Including The Ability To Prepare Reports And Other documentation.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Google Workspace and other department-related software.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications for pepper spray and Electronic Control Device (Taser) use.
  • Ability to operate department vehicles and utilize campus safety systems, including the Campus Notification System (CNS).
