Job summary

Brown University Police Department seeks a Lieutenant to lead uniformed operations within an assigned campus area and oversee day-to-day safety and security. You will supervise shift personnel, coordinate with detectives and campus partners, and provide guidance during major incidents.

The role requires an Associate’s Degree (bachelor’s preferred), at least three years as a sergeant, and RI Police Academy licensure.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree required; bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field preferred.
• Minimum of three years’ experience as a sergeant.
• Graduate of Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy.
• Licensable by the RI State Police under RI General Law 12-2.1-1

Responsibilities

• Operational oversight and incident coordination for a designated campus area.
• Directs and supervises sergeants and staff; trains, coaches, and evaluates performance.
• Coordinates with internal and external agencies during incidents and investigations.
• Assists with policy development and accreditation-related activities.
