Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College is seeking a Director of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to lead day-to-day operations, supervise staff, and collaborate with campus leadership on emergency planning and security programs.

The role focuses on implementing comprehensive safety measures, drills, Clery Act compliance, and a proactive security posture while supporting a culture of teamwork and student- and employee-centered service.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of related experience showing progression of responsibility and supervision, preferably in post-secondary education.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent organizational, planning, evaluation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel within the state and occasional out-of-state travel for professional development.
• Commitment to inclusive environment reflecting diversity.

Responsibilities

• Assists in recruitment, selection, retention, and development of campus Public Safety staff.
• Provides direct supervision to campus Public Safety staff.
• Implements comprehensive emergency management and continuity plans.
• Plans and executes Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program–compliant drills.
• Ensures campus compliance with the Clery Act.
• Establishes a threat and risk-based front-line security staffing plan.
• Oversees physical security including surveillance and access control.
• Provides leadership during campus crises and liaises with the Executive Director.
• Meets with campus safety committee to address safety concerns.
• Acts as a model for leadership and student- and employee-centered culture.
• Maintains campus emergency notification systems.
• Coordinates events with facilities when public safety is needed.
• Collaborates with AWARE Team.
