Job summary

West Virginia University in Morgantown seeks a Community Safety Officer to support our values of Service, Curiosity, Respect, Accountability and Appreciation. This on-campus role focuses on patrols, public assistance, and community engagement to keep students, staff and visitors safe.

This non-sworn civil position offers a 37.5-hour work week, first-rate benefits and opportunities to grow within the University Police Department as you help build a secure campus environment.

Qualifications

• Must possess strong public safety and incident awareness.
• Ability to communicate clearly with diverse groups and staff.
• CPR certification is required or to be obtained.
• Ability to apply defensive tactics and respond quickly in emergencies.
• Capable of gathering data and preparing basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Provide proactive patrols of assigned area on campus to observe persons and property for crime reduction.
• Develop positive relations with campus community; advise on safety and security.
• Patrols during events and manage crowd control as needed.
• Monitor for safety hazards and respond to incidents; report deficiencies.
• Administer first aid and coordinate transportation for ill or injured persons.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the University Police Department.
