Job summary

The Community Services Officer at The University of Chicago Campus Safety Division supports campus safety and security for the Lab School and Charter School campuses. The CSO serves as a bridge between law enforcement and school communities, providing safety escorts, visitor management, and incident reporting in coordination with the University Police Department.

Essential staff may be required to report for unscheduled shifts during emergencies or weather events to ensure university operations

Qualifications

• Education: vocational training or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).
• Work Experience: 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
• Certifications: Driver's License - Multiple States
• Associates degree from an accredited college.
• One year of service-oriented public contact experience.
• Prior security and law enforcement experience in a K-12 environment.

Responsibilities

• Assists students, faculty, staff, and visitors to maintain a safe environment.
• Patrols campuses on foot and inspects for fire/safety hazards.
• Assist investigations with the University Police Department.
• Manage visitor identification and logging for Charter School after hours.
• Provide safety escorts and information to students, staff, and visitors.
• Support administrative functions and assist with projects as needed.
• Perform clerical and record-keeping duties and prepare routine reports.
